Assistance to the Seafarers
The Seamen’s Club also has an assistance role, often some sort of moral support, but sometimes much more than that. It happens that some boats are seized in the port for different reasons: a company that has not paid its bills, has gone bankrupt, unpaid salaries, badly treated or abandoned seafarers, boats in a very bad condition, etc.
We have different missions in these disastrous cases. First and foremost, we help the seafarers to get in contact with the agents and the various organizations that can help them. Secondly, our association provides them with basic necessities, food and water. These happen to be in short supply when the company no longer ensures the delivery on board.
Finally, the Club provides moral support, particularly in situations where seafarers find themselves abandoned in a foreign country. Despite the difficulties that these situations bring, we always remain available for them. Moral support is then provided through visits, evenings in the hostel or even simple conversations. Everything so that they do not feel isolated.
Thanks to the mobilization of the members of the great family of the Seamen’s Club, “We Put Seafarers First” is and will remain our motto.
