Presentation of the organization
The Seamen’s Club (“Les Amis des Marins”) is a non-profit organization which works for the well-being of seafarers. Its main function is to welcome seafarers stopping over in the ports of Caronte, Lavéra, Fos, Port-de-Bouc and Port-Saint-Louis in the Bouches-du-Rhône. It is placed under the aegis of the National Federation of Seamen’s Reception Associations (FNAAM).
The missions of the Seamen’s Club
Since 1985, the Seamen’s Club has been carrying out a number of missions aimed at ensuring the well-being of seafarers. The organization offers a friendly space where seafarers can relax, eat, use the internet, buy souvenirs and spend some enjoyable time with the team.
In addition, a free transport service is provided by the association. The drivers take the sailors from their ships to the centre of Port-de-Bouc and then possibly to the shopping centre.
Come and learn more about the different services offered on our dedicated page!
A welcoming team
The Seamen’s Club currently has five paid staff and a dozen volunteers. It is with great humility and dedication that this friendly team accompanies the seafarers throughout their stopover. Conviviality and sharing are two values that are very present in the centre. The organization also gladly welcomes anyone wishing to become part of the great family of the Seamen’s Club.
If you too would like to join the team and become a volunteer, feel free to contact us!
Grants and donations
The organization is partly subsidised by a financial intervention from the State deducted from the ship tax paid by the shipowner. The law 2016-816 of 20 June 2016 on the Blue Economy allowed the implementation of this grant. Donations from the various municipalities located around the port basin and from individuals also make it possible to support the Seamen’s Club.
